WALK! It Does a Mind Good
Did you know that besides helping you physically, walking
can also help your emotional state? Walking
and other exercise leads to the release of the body’s natural chemicals—endorphins. Walkers who walk at a higher heart rate will
notice this effect more than those who walk at a slower pace. But even at a slower pace, most people notice
an improvement in mood.
Many doctors recommend adding regular walking and exercise
as a natural treatment to relieve a bout of depression. The cause of depression is related to brain
chemistry. By getting your brain to
release more of the happy chemicals—the endorphins—you achieve an improved mood
naturally.
Maybe the winter weather is keeping you from walking and getting
regular exercise. Are you missing out on
physical activity because of the rain, snow, cold and ice? Then come and join us for our second annual
“indoor” benefit walk!
Yes, the walk will be indoors. You will be learning a walking routine that
will keep you moving and able to exercise anytime, regardless of the weather. If the walking routine becomes too strenuous,
walk in place at your own pace.
Remember, this is a BENEFIT
walk. No Longer Alone Ministry (NLAM)
wants to raise $15,000 to help the clients, and their families, who receive
support and services through NLAM. You
can be a part of the event by registering as a walker by asking friends and
family to sponsor you. Or you can be a
sponsor of one of the walkers.
The first 25 walkers
that preregister will get a special prize. And all walkers that raise $250
or more before the day of the walk will receive a tee shirt. Door prizes will also be awarded.
The walk will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the
Landisville Mennonite Church.
3320 Bowman Road, Landisville, PA. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., warm-up at 9:45
a.m. and the walk starts at 10:00 a.m. The walk, done at your own pace, will last
approximately 45 minutes, each 15 minutes being the equivalent of one mile. To preregister and/or get more information,
contact our office at 390-4891 or email us at: office@nlam.org,
